Even as I asked the question of hurry – whether it is a disregard to Christ’s love – I found myself pondering the question.

What does an unhurried life look like?

Like most everything in life the perfect example is found in Scripture. Christ. The God Man who walked the earth in human shoes….sinless….perfect…..not rushed…..not self consumed….not anxious.  Instead calm, peaceful, filled with the presence of God His Father.

I thought of Jesus as He heard of the death of Lazarus, His friend. He didn’t hurry back to him as His disciples expected. Instead He stayed two days longer in the place where He was before He made His way to the hometown of Mary and Martha, sisters of the deceased.

Patiently waiting until the timing of the Father – for the Father’s glory – then Jesus acted. He spoke of walking in the light, as if He had a light unknown to those around Him.  Now as His disciples on earth we have this light not known to those around us. The ability to live led by the Spirit, discerning the will of God for the glory of God, in His timing. Not worried. Not anxious. Trusting that God works each step of our days out according to His timetable. This would be the unhurried life.

When bad news comes, like the bad news of Lazarus’ death came to Jesus, if we calm ourselves before we react. If we pray for wisdom when unforeseen set backs occur.  In the traffic, in the grocery line, or when the phone rings as we are running out the door, doesn’t God know it all?
