Christian growth relying on God or technologyRecently Dad (Walt) and I have been talking about how especially in Africa the people draw together to pray – often large groups praying for someone who is sick or in need.
Why is it that they are so fervent in faith and here in America we are not quick to run to God? We live with technology at our fingertips. When we don’t feel good we can run to the doctor for medicine or run to google to self diagnose.
Even recently I was trying to set up Dad’s locksmith business on google businesses and my internet was having trouble which led to google suspending the account. What frustration! Here I was trying to help generate business traffic and I spent hours trying to just list the business.

When I think of my own mindset – I’m focused on finding my own solutions, doing what we all do, running to the Internet and technology to make life work.

All that is well and good but what if I stop trying so hard. What if when technological problems arise rather than wasting many hours and frustration consulting Google on the answers to fix the problem, what if I spent more time dependent on God. Praying “Father I need help with this please show me the way.”

Somehow ingrained in my being is the sense that if I don’t try my hardest to figure out how to fix everything then I am not being responsible to do my part. And so I condone my behavior of consulting Google for everything as responsible. But is it?
Doesn’t God have more answers than Google? And aren’t His answers more miraculous and supernatural and less stressful?
You see we have access to so much information that it’s almost like our minds tell us we don’t need to consult God?

How can this apply to your Christian growth?

Think about your week. What have you gone online to find answers for this week?

In what ways can you depend on the Lord for wisdom before running to technology? Or even in the midst of technology how can you depend on Him to give you wisdom in this technological age?

Meditate on the Word

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Prayer

Lord, help me to seek you first today. Amen.
