Tips and Encouragements for kids Sunday school teachersKids Sunday school teaching

My husband and I have been teaching kids Sunday for probably six years and I taught years before that. I know how important it is to the Lord to faithfully train the next generation but sometimes I forgot what a privilege it is. I lose sight of the impact we can have on these young lives.

Recently the Lord impressed several things on my heart.

As a Kids Sunday School teacher we have a captive audience. For one hour these children hear spiritual truth. You never know what home life these students are from, they might be brought to church by their grandparents, or Sunday morning church might be the only spiritual activity their family does all week.

You can make a difference as a kids Sunday school teacher

  • Never underestimate what God can do with the words you speak in class.
  • Rather than assume that each child has a saving faith in Christ, ask them and if they don’t have a clear answer go over the salvation message.
  • Our church has take home sheets which include five days of ‘devotions’ or scriptures for the student to look up. I’ve been trying to take the time to remind them how important it is to get in the Word during the week.

Instead of making it a formal class we frequently leave room for open discussion of questions so that at any point during the lesson if a child doesn’t understand we can clarify.

This school year our class is a small, averaging usually only one or two students per week. This has been a blessing because we have had the opportunity to really speak truth into these lives.

Even though you may not know the difference you are making here on earth, God will reward you.
