The Holy Spirit will teach you

Spirit Filled Craftsman (Exodus 31) by Walt Irwin

It is amazing to read in God’s Word how He, through the Holy Spirit, gave ordinary people the ability to build the Tabernacle with all its appointments and furnishings. ( just think how the Holy Spirit will teach you)

Int my Bible, chapter 31 of Exodus is titled “Spirit Filled Craftsmen;” which I love!Just stop for a moment and read vs 1-11 and see how Father God blessed many ordinary men with the skills to be and be a creative force in the ongoing work of His Tabernacle.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given ability to all the skilled workers to make everything I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law with the atonement cover on it, and all the other furnishings of the tent— the table and its articles, the pure gold lampstand and all its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, the basin with its stand— 10 and also the woven garments, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests, 11 and the anointing oil and fragrant incense for the Holy Place. They are to make them just as I commanded you.”

The great thing is that Father God is still the same today, so we are not out of place to pray for Him to “make us Spirit filled craftsmen.” (I think this is another one of God’s awesome promises that people forget to pray for)

I’m so glad I learned this as a young man because it gave me the impetuous to become a craftsman for God. I learned it was ‘ok’ to pray for wisdom and understanding in the trades so I could make a living and also to minister to many people. (Oh yes, it is wonderful how the Lord gives even the hand skills to accomplish our tasks – much like Exodus 31!)

As a youth pastor I was involved with other churches, as I though my young people needed to see and respect a multitude of different believers.

I had an opportunity to meet such a Spirit Filled Craftsman at one of these churches and was invited to come to his wood shop for a time of training and fellowship.

I brought one of my teenage young men, who was also very interested in becoming a carpenter. That night at his shop this man gave his testimony of how the Holy Spirit came upon him and began teaching him (supernateralistic education) the skills of fine cabinet making. He had no experience before this time, but grew tremendously with the Lord’s supernatural training.

This is an amazing story that shows how Father God works these things out; and not only for our sustenance but also for His Glory.

In my own career I was called on to create, cut and build a great grand master access control system for a large institution in our town. Math is not one of my favorite subjects and the project required massive progressions. The Holy Spirit came upon me and calmed my fears as He showed me exactly how to accomplish this.

As I look at this project now, I realize how involves and interested God is in our lifework. This project eventually worked so well that I became their residential craftsman. All this success was because Father God still makes Spirit filled craftsmen.

Love you and be a blessing
